When you make the choice to seek counseling, you have already begun to empower yourself towards change. Selecting a therapist is as critical as the decision itself. Therapists have varying styles and approaches: some are formal and believe just listening without interrupting is best. With twenty-five years of experience, I have always found the most effective approach is to be interactive throughout the session: offering feedback, clarification, direction, and encouragement – while strengthening an individual’s inner resources. I have been described as “down to earth,” offering unconditional acceptance and support. I believe in the integrity and potential of every individual I work with. This creates an environment of trust and emotional safety. I work with individuals towards personal growth and solution-focused results. I utilize traditional/ alternative-creative approaches such as: dreams, music, art, writing, film, and (for children/teens) the use of “therapy animals.” The
human spirit is a powerful force inside each of us. Tapping into that
